SingTel appoints V-P as new consumer unit chief
Singapore Telecommunications has appointed a successor to outgoing consumer head Quek Peck Leng within a week of his surprise resignation. Yuen Kuan Moon, currently the vice-president of regional operations for SingTel's international group, will head its consumer division from January, the company said in a statement yesterday. Unlike his predecessor who held the designation of executive vice-president, Mr Yuen will assume the newly created job title of chief of SingTel consumer operations. He will oversee the group's cellular business, as well as newer mobile and Internet television offerings. Mr Yuen has been with SingTel for 15 years. From 2003 to 2007, he was seconded to the company's Indonesian associate Telkomsel and served as its director of commerce before returning to Singapore earlier this year. His appointment comes hot on the heels of Mr Quek's resignation last Thursday. A company spokesman had told BT that the incumbent consumer head was leaving for 'personal reasons' and would go on 'gardening leave' from next month.
