Banyan Tree shares hit by Thai protests
Banyan Tree Holdings' shares fell yesterday as anti-government protests intensified in Thailand. Banyan Tree closed at 34.5 cents, down 5.5 per cent from 36.5 cents, while Thailand's biggest brewer and distiller Thai Beverage fell to 17 cents at the opening before recovering to close unchanged at 18 cents. Meanwhile, Total Access Communications - a Thai company listed in Singapore - closed one cent up at 74 US cents. The unstable political climate in Thailand is serving as a challenge for companies with operations there, especially since there is also the deteriorating global economy to contend with.
